Something different–Gee’s Bend Floor Cloth

IMG_5882   This is a 4′ x 4′ floor cloth painted with acrylics on canvas–very different from my usual work.

The design is based on a quilt made in the community of Gee’s Bend,  Alabama, an African-American community known for its incredible quilts.  To see more of these wonderful, alive, colorful quilts, go to this link: https://www.google.com/search?q=gee%27s+bend&hl=en&client=firefox-hs=KVc&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=Lr2jT9GtDKnk0QGto-S1CQ&ved=0CHwQsAQ&biw=1920&bih=892
This floor cloth was made for my sister Betsey (Elizabeth Maupin), a potter, who made me a fanciful painted pottery clock in return.  To see her work, go to her link in the sidebar on the right.
