OTHER FUN PROJECTS
A different kind of project— recently finished baby quilt, 44″ x 50″
THE FORMER GRAND ILLUSTRIOUS PRESIDENT TUBMAN (embroidered)…..
….who was president of Liberia when I was there in the Peace Corps in 1967-68. America’s darling, he took care of the powers-that-be in Liberia and ignored the rest–as long as the rest weren’t criticizing him. The embroidery in this piece is done on a piece of Liberian birthday cloth. Every year one Liberian county was charged with celebrating the President’s birthday. The teachers in that county gave up their salaries for one month to pay for the Illustrious President’s Very Grand Birthday Celebration. Then there was civil war…
This mirror with its resident gecko is a present for a biologist who likes lizards—and snakes and bats.
The wooden frame is approx. 12″ x 16″, painted with acrylic paint, embellished with fabric and small pieces of glass.
This is a little piece of creative fun I want to share, a 15″ x 12″ crazy quilt of pieced fabric. This little rectangle has 8, 739,563 embroidery stitches on it Or maybe just 8,000,000. I think it’s finished, but I’m not sure. This small crazy quilt does not have a purpose, other than to make my hands and soul very happy while I’m working on it.
